Solem Quartet launch Beethoven Bartók Now with Part 1, BBN: Night Music.
Aaron Parker commission
Bartók Quartet no. 5
Beethoven Quartet no. 13, op. 130 (revised ending)
Lonely melodies supported by eerie dissonances punctuated with sounds of the nature characterise Bartók’s ‘night music’ style. Beethoven’s op. 130, the second of the late quartets, contains an extraordinary palette of dark and light in six remarkable movements. Aaron Parker has written a spell-binding new work featuring references to Bartók’s ‘night music’, and a depth of harmonic expression found so richly in Beethoven’s op. 130. Aaron’s work unites the different worlds of these giants, and raises something new.
Aaron Parker (b.1991) writes loosely-defined instrumental and electronic music informed by a love of landscape, film (Jonas Mekas, Rose Lowder, Peter Bo Rappmund, Joshua Bonnetta), visual art (Anselm Keifer, Gerhard Richter, Ai Weiwei), and sound (Eliane Radigue, Rashad Becker, John Cage, Giuseppe Ielasi, Chris Watson, György Kurtág, Radiohead, & many others).
